Lynx

Steve Nobes, a.k.a. Lynx, was born in Portsmouth in 1978. By the age of 14 he was already DJ'ing and producing, using an Amiga 500 and a sampler the size of a credit card. As the rave scene mutated into hardcore and in turn into drum and bass, Lynx's production techniques adapted to ensure he remained a cutting-edge artist. His early influences included tracks such as Renegade Snares and Lord of the Null lines.
Lynx has spent the last three years refining his own unique brand of drum 'n' bass, starting with his first release Moon Warriors with Raiden (Renegade Hardware). His potential was quickly realised by Brighton based label Underfire Recordings. This provided Lynx with the opportunity to work alongside producers such as Stakka, Skynet, Skinny and Friction. Throughout 2002 Lynx has pushed the boundaries of 'techno-drum and bass' to produce a quality blend of dance music which is energetic, euphoric and yet highly innovative. Whilst producing for Underfire and sister label, Audio Blueprint, Lynx was building a strong collaboration with Southampton based producer "The Outsider" where they recorded for Fused Recordings.
Feeling the need for progression Lynx has of late turned his attention to the more rolling side of drum and bass, achieving his first of what will surely be many releases on Renegade Recordings. Timeout, produced with DJ Flow, (France), has been receiving great reactions wherever it is dropped, providing the crowd a perfect funky summertime roller.
Similar to his tracks, Lynx's DJ'ing is extremely diverse, playing right across the many styles of drum and bass. In all his sets, Lynx aims to educate as well as providing great crowd-pleasing dance music. Over the last year, Lynx has played alongside DJ's such as Grooverider, Adam F and EZ Rollers at his residency Club Jongleurs in Portsmouth. Lynx's popularity has also taken him in and around Europe with particularly strong connections in France, including playing at Suburbahn in Rennes and featuring on numerous French radio stations. As well as recording under the name Lynx, he can be found under the pseudonyms of Tricorn (Sinuous Recordings) and Sicknote. (Botchit Breaks).
Through his continual producing and engineering at Airtight Studios, where he started working in December 2000, Lynx continues to forge his own sound whilst providing other artists a means to express their individuality. Lynx works as part of the management team at Airtight, as well as running the dance music section of the studio. He provides producers of all abilities, tuition with digital and analogue recording equipment and samplers, whilst also working as a professional engineer for various accomplished artists.
2004 promises to be an exciting year for Lynx, with future releases on Renegade Recordings, Nu Directions and his ongoing pseudonym as Tricorn for Sinuous Recordings. Also recently, Lynx has got a fresh release due out on new label Touchin Down Productions with Flow, Studio Mafia & vocalist Bev Carter. Numerous D.J. bookings are arranged including his return to Rennes in France later in the year. This year will see the birth of Lynx's self-promoted night. This will provide Portsmouth with the opportunity to regularly hear the music of Lynx and the best up-and-coming south coast DJ's, as well as all the biggest and best names drum and bass can offer.
